How satan Gets a Hold on You ?

We don’t know much about demons. The Bible speaks matter-of-factly of them, but provides little detail about them or their history. And God has good reasons for this, at least for now.

“Our best protection against demons is less preoccupation with demons and more preoccupation with God.”

We do know a few truths about demons. We know demons oppose the kingdom of God (Luke 11:14–23), that they seek to deceitfully ensnare humans and manipulate them to do their will rather than God’s (2 Timothy 2:26), and that it’s possible for them to gain such an influence over a person that they essentially “possess” them (Luke 8:26–39). And we know that, unless people are born again and live in the authority of the risen Christ, demons have “the power of death” over them and therefore use people’s “fear of death” to maximum advantage (Hebrews 2:14–15).

We also know there is a hierarchy of demonic power (Ephesians 6:12), and that there is a ruling evil being known since antiquity as “the devil and Satan” (Revelation 12:9) who was manifested as a serpent in Eden (Genesis 3:1–5; Revelation 12:9), was present in the divine council in Job (Job 1:6–12), and tempted Jesus in the wilderness (Luke 4:1–13).

Why We Know So Little ?

Beyond these, we don’t know much about the demonic world, because God doesn’t tell us. Why doesn’t He tell us more? Demons seem rather dangerous and influential. Wouldn’t we benefit from knowing more about our insidious enemies?

No. Because when it comes to good and evil, God wants us “to be wise as to what is good and innocent as to what is evil” (Romans 16:19). Our best protection against demons is less preoccupation with them and more preoccupation with God — less understanding of deception and more understanding of truth.

None of us is a match for Satan and his demonic underlings. Increasing our wisdom in evil would be the path we will end up choosing a drastic end. Remember, desiring knowledge of both good and evil is what got us in trouble in the first place (Genesis 3:4–7). We are far better off to “be wise as to what is good and innocent as to what is evil.”

Our Spiritual Armor:

When the apostle Paul described our spiritual war against our supernatural foes, note how he described our armour and weapons in Ephesians 6:14–18:

1.The belt of truth: what holds our “uniform” together and keeps

our “limbs” free is knowing God’s truth.

2.The breastplate of righteousness: understanding how we are

clothed with Christ’s righteousness (Philippians 3:9) is what

guards our vitals.

3.The shoes of the gospel: what enables us to traverse difficult ground during battle is knowledge of the gospel of peace.

4.The shield of faith: trusting God’s promises is what extinguishes darts of deception, not detailed knowledge of the darts or their shooters.

5.The helmet of salvation: our head (our brain) is protected by clearly knowing who saved us and how.

6.The sword of the Spirit: the word of God is our most powerful, effective offensive weapon against a powerful spiritual enemy.

7.Pray at all times in the Spirit: speaking to demons is not something the Bible commends. The only speaking to demons we see is rebuking them in Jesus’s name. Praying to God is what we are mainly commanded to do when confronting demonic powers.

Every aspect of the armor and weapons of our spiritual warfare has to do with being wise as to what is good (and innocent as to what is evil). God is our best protection from the ravages of our evil enemy — God’s truth, his righteousness, his gospel, his promises, his salvation, his word, and our prayerful orientation to him.

What Makes the Devil Flee?

When the Bible instructs us how to send devils scurrying away in fear, it says,

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).

This is powerful spiritual warfare.

Here’s the key: we grant authority to whomever we trust. The devil has no authority over any Christian, except the authority we grant him by believing him. The more we believe him, the more influence and control over us we give to him — the more he gets a hold on us. This is not some mysterious spiritual secret. This is the way influence or control works in any relationship we have.

When it comes to demons, we do not need to claim any authority over them. Words don’t act like spells with demons (Acts 19:15). Demons only recognize God’s authority and they tremble before it (James 2:19). When we submit ourselves to God — come under his authority by trusting, obeying, and enjoying him — demons get the hell away from us. This act of faith releases great spiritual power, and demons cannot withstand it.

Demons are real — powerfully real. They wreak more havoc in our lives and society than most post-Enlightenment Western Christians are aware of. We must take God’s words more seriously than our culture’s ridicule. But we do not need to know more details about demons or their strategies than God has told us. We do not need to be wiser in evil things.

We need to know God. The more we know God and his word, the more we trust him and live in obedience to him, the wiser we become as to what is good, the more dangerous we become to demons. Because our submission to God brings his kingdom to bear in the world and is how “the God of peace . . . crush [es] Satan under [our] feet” (Romans 16:20).

A term that is often heard in Christian circles is the term generational curse. I am not sure if people who are not Christians use that terminology or at least I have never heard it if they do. Many people may wonder what exactly is a generational curse. Some even go a step further to ask are generational curses real today? The answer to that question is yes, but maybe not in a way you may have thought.

1.What are the Generational Curses?

To begin with I want to redefine the term because what people often describe as generational curses are really generational consequences. What I mean is that what is passed down is not a “curse” in the sense that God is cursing the family line. What is passed down is the consequence of sinful actions and behaviour. Thus, a generational curse is really a function of sowing and reaping passed down from one generation to the next. Consider Galatians 6:8: “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

The generational curse is a passing down of sinful behaviour that gets replicated in the next generation. A parent doesn’t just pass down physical attributes but also spiritual and emotional attributes as well. These attributes can be seen as a curse and in some respects they are. However, they are not a curse from God, meaning he put them on you, they are a result of sin and sinful behaviour. 

2.What is the True Origin of Generational Sin?

To understand the origin of generational sin you must go back to the beginning. “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned” (Romans 5:12).

The generational curse of sin started with Adam in the garden, not with Moses. Because of Adam’s sin we are all born under the curse of sin. This curse causes us all to be born with a sinful nature which is the true catalyst of any sinful behaviour we exhibit.  As David said, “Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me” (Psalm 51:5).

If left to its own devices, sin will run its course. If it is never dealt with, it will end in eternal separation from God himself. This is the ultimate generational curse. However, when most people talk about generational curses, they don’t think of original sin. So, let’s consider all of the previous information and formulate a complete answer to the question are generational curses real today?

 3.Where in the Bible do We see Generational Curses?

A lot of focus and thought surrounding the question of whether generational curses are real today comes from Exodus 34:7.

“Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”  

When you read this in isolation, it is understandable when thinking about if generational curses real today to conclude yes, based on this scripture verse. However, I want to look at what God said just before this:

“And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, ‘The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation” (Exodus 34:6-7).

How do you reconcile these two different pictures of God? On one hand, you have a God who is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, forgiving wickedness, rebellion, and sin. On the other hand, you have a God who seems to be punishing children for the sins of their parents. How do you marry these two images of God?

The answer brings us back to the principle mentioned in Galatians. To the one who repents, God forgives. To the one who refuses they set in motion the sowing and reaping of sinful behaviour. That is what gets passed down from one generation to the next. 

4.Are Generational Curses Still Real Today?

As you can see, there are actually two answers to this question, and it is based on how you define the term. To be clear, the generational curse of original sin is still alive and real today. Every person is born under this curse. What is also alive and real today are the generational consequences that come from the sinful choices passed down through generations.

However, this does not mean that if your father was an alcoholic, adulterer, or caught up in whatever sinful behaviour, that this is what you will become. What it does mean is that this behaviour exhibited by your father or parents will have consequences in your life. Whether for good or bad, they may shape the way you view life and the decisions and choices that you make.

5.Are not the Generational Curses Unfair and Unjust?

Another way of looking at this question is if God is just, why would he curse generations? To be clear it is important to remember that God is not cursing generations. God is allowing the consequence of unrepentant sin to run its course, which I guess you could argue is a curse unto itself. Ultimately in God’s design, every person is responsible for their own sinful behaviour and will be judged accordingly. Consider Jeremiah 31:29-30:

“In those days people will no longer say, ‘The parents have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.’ Instead, everyone will die for their own sin; whoever eats sour grapes — their own teeth will be set on edge.”

While you may have to deal with the effects of the unrepentant sinful behaviour of your parents, you are still responsible for your own choices and decisions. They may have impacted and shaped many of the actions you take, but they are still actions you must choose to take.

6.How do you Break Generational Curses?

 I don’t think you can just stop at the question are generational curses real today? The more urgent question in my mind is how then do you break them? We are all born under the generational curse of Adam’s sin and we are all enduring the generational consequences of our parents’ unrepentant sin. How do you break all of this? Romans provides us with the answer.

“For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people” (Romans 5:17-18).

The remedy to break the curse of Adam’s sin and the consequence of your parents’ sin is found in Jesus Christ. Any person born again in Jesus Christ has been made brand new and you are no longer under the curse of any sin. Consider this verse:

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Saviour], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life]” (2 Corinthians 5:17, AMP).

Regardless of what has happened before, once you are in Christ it is all made brand new. This one decision to repent and choose Jesus as your saviour ends any generational curse or consequence that you feel prone to. If salvation breaks the ultimate generational curse of original sin, it will also break the consequence of any sins of your fathers. The challenge for you is to continue to walk out what God has done in you.

If you are in Christ, you are no longer a prisoner to your past, you have been set free.

Honestly sometimes the scars of your past life remain but you don’t have to remain victim to them because Jesus has set you on a new path. As Jesus has declared in John 8:36, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

 7.Pass Down Godliness

You and I were born under a curse and a consequence. The curse of original sin and the consequence of our parents’ behaviours. The good news is that just as sinful behaviours can be passed down, so can Godly behaviours. Once you are in Christ you can begin a new family heritage of people walking with God from one generation to the next.

Because you belong to him, you can transform your family line from generational cursing to generational blessing. You are new in Christ; you are free in Christ so walk in that newness and freedom. Regardless of what has happened before, because of Christ you have victory.

I implore you to live in that victory and change the course of your family’s future for generations to come.

Where do we go when we die?

Where does a Christian or unbeliever go when they die? Do we go directly to heaven (or hell)?
 

The experience of death differs depending on whether a person is a saint (i.e., saved by faith in the Lord) or an unbeliever, and when in history a person lived.

For all humanity, the Bible teaches that when a person's body dies, the body returns to dust. The human body grows old and dies because of the curse God pronounced on the earth following Adam's sin in Genesis 3. The material God used to construct the human body came "from the ground," according to Genesis 2, therefore, the curse on the earth also condemned the human body to die, since the body is part of the earth. As the earth goes, so goes our physical body.

While the human body is temporary and eventually dies and disintegrates, the human spirit (also called soul) is eternal. The spirit/soul exists forever and is always conscious. Our spirit is never "asleep" (as some teach incorrectly) and it was designed to exist within a physical body. Therefore, after a person's body dies, the person's spirit will exist somewhere in full consciousness yet without a body until a future day of resurrection, when God gives each spirit a new, permanent body.

At the point of death, a person's spirit will experience different outcomes depending on whether the person was a saint (i.e., a believer) and depending on when they lived in history.

For the Christian who dies today, his or her spirit moves directly from the body at the moment of death into Christ's presence in the Heavenly throne room escorted by angels, according to Jesus in Luke 16. As Paul explains:

2Cor. 5:4 For indeed while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened, because we do not want to be unclothed but to be clothed, so that what is mortal will be swallowed up by life.

2Cor. 5:5 Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge.

2Cor. 5:6 Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord —

2Cor. 5:7 for we walk by faith, not by sight —

2Cor. 5:8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.

2Cor. 5:9 Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.

 Our physical body is the material, temporary part of our existence, so Paul says it is only a temporary home for our spirit, which is the eternal part of us. Our spirit occupies our body for a time, but when our body dies, our spirit moves to our next home to be present with the Lord (if we are a believer) into the throne room of God.

Paul goes on in 2Corinthians to tell us more about that moment:

2Cor. 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

 After our physical body dies, Paul says we appear before the judgment seat of the Lord in spirit form to receive our rewards for service to the Lord.

Prior to Jesus' death and resurrection, the process for a saint operated differently. A story told by Jesus in Luke 16 give us the definitive Biblical account of life after death prior to the resurrection of the Messiah.

Prior to Christ's death and resurrection, the souls of Old Testament saints could not go directly to heaven at the moment of death, since the atonement of Christ had yet to be made on the cross. Though these saints were saved by their faith, the sacrifice to cleanse their sin had not yet been made by Christ. Because of their faith they were not due to receive a penalty for their sin, but because Christ had not yet died for them, they had not yet been cleansed from sin.

Therefore, God made a special provision for these Old Testament saints in the time before Christ. God held the souls of saints in a place of comfort, euphemistically called Abraham's Bosom, where they were waiting until Christ's appearing. Abraham's Bosom was the "good" side of a place called Sheol in the Old Testament. Sheol also held a side of torment called Hades, from which we get the word Hell. Abraham's Bosom and Hades existed side-by-side in Sheol until the time of Jesus' appearing in the first century.

After Christ's crucifixion, He descended into the earth following His death. There He preached to the OT saints waiting in Abraham's Bosom. Like Jesus introduced Himself as the Messiah these saints anticipated in faith, and He explained the Lord's plan of salvation. At the conclusion of three days’ time, Jesus ascended into Heaven, and He set these saints free from this place of waiting by escorting them directly into Heaven, as Paul and Peter explain:

 Eph. 4:8 Therefore it says, “When He ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, And He gave gifts to men.”

Eph. 4:9 (Now this expression, “He ascended,” what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth?

Eph. 4:10 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.)

1Pet. 4:6 For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God.

1Pet. 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;

1Pet. 3:19 in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison,

Today, Abraham's Bosom stands empty, since the spirits of dead New Testament saints may enter directly into Heaven. By the start of Christ's thousand-year Kingdom on earth, all saints (both Old and New Testament believers) will have received new physical bodies as part of the First Resurrection, according to Revelation 20, and all will live eternally with Christ in their new bodies.

The Church saints are resurrected at the Rapture, which is the modern name given to the moment Paul described in 1Corinthians 15, when the Church saints who have died (and are present in spirit with Christ in Heaven) receive new physical bodies followed by those Church saints still alive on the earth. The Old Testament saints are resurrected at the conclusion of the Tribulation, according to Daniel 12. Then all saints enter the Kingdom together in new eternal bodies. 

On the other hand, the destination for unbelievers in death is very different. Hades is still occupied and its numbers grow by the hour. Every unbeliever who dies is separated, soul from body, and the spirit enters Hades where they await their day of judgment. Hades is under our feet in the center of the earth, according to the Bible, and the spirits of all unbelievers go to this place regardless of when they died in history. They suffer in torment day and night, according to the Bible, yet Hades is not their final abode.

A final, future judgment called the Great White Throne Judgment awaits all unbelievers at the conclusion of the thousand-year Kingdom on earth, according to Revelation 20. At the start of this judgment, all unbelievers are removed from Hades and given new physical bodies in the Second Resurrection, according to Revelation 20. At this judgment, these will be condemned to the "second death," which is the Bible's term for an eternal existence in the Lake of Fire.

IF I REGARD INIQUITY IN MY HEART, THE LORD WILL NOT HEAR – Psalm 66:18

Why does God not answer prayers? There can be any number of reasons why He doesn’t answer our prayer, sin being the biggest reason why our prayers are not answered. Can God answer a prayer when we have not confessed sin? Will He answer a prayer if there are sinful thoughts on our mind?

God’s first condition is that our heart must be pure. In Isaiah 1:15 God says: “I will hide mine eyes … I will not hear.” Sin in our heart will close God’s ear and cut off all communication with Him. It is unsuccessful for us to pray when we are carrying a sin on our conscience which we have not yet acknowledged or confessed. Isaiah 59:1–2 says, “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.”

To help us better understand here are some examples of hindrances to prayer:

Un-confessed and un-repented sin – In the letter to the Romans, Paul tells us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Yes, we all sin, but do we have un-confessed and un-repented sin in our life?  If so, we need to confess our sin, and repent from it as we are commanded in Acts 17:30 “God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent,” if we do not, our prayers are not going to be heard. (Psalm 66:18)

Selfishness – “You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures” (James 4:3).  We need to examine ourselves and make sure our prayers are not motivated by selfish desires.  If we find that selfishness is a factor then we need to confess it and repent.

Doubt – “But let him ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea driven and tossed by the wind,” (James 1:6).  We all doubt and when we do we should remember the man who said to Jesus, “Lord I believe, help my unbelief” (Mark 9:24). Remember that God has given a measure of faith to every man (Romans 12:3), therefore we need to trust God. James 4:8 tells us to: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” God is merciful and He will help us is we trust Him. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall directvyour paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Pride.  Jesus spoke of the Pharisee and the tax-gatherer who both were praying.  The Pharisee boasted about himself while the tax-gatherer asked for mercy from God.  Jesus said in Luke 18:14 regarding the tax-collector, “I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other.”  Jesus shows us that pride is sin and that it hinders prayer. “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).  If you are prideful, confess it as sin, repent, and learn from Jesus how to be humble unto death.

A poor relationship -If there are problems with your family, a friend or acquaintance because of selfishness, pride, arguments, anger, un-forgiveness, or any of the other number of obstacles that cause strife, then your prayers will be hindered. In Matthew 5:23-24 Jesus said, “If therefore you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar, and go your way; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering.” 

When the believer lives in rebellion against God, sin blocks his ability to communicate with our heavenly Father (Psalm 66:18) and places them in a position to be disciplined by the Lord (1 Corinthians 11:32) so that we will not be condemned along with the world. We are not to grieve the Holy Spirit by whom we were sealed for the day of redemption” (Ephesians 4:30), because, “the Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God.” (Romans 8:16)

The Bible teaches us as believers to put off falsehood and speak truthfully to everyone, for we are all members of one body. We are not to be angry with each other for that is sin, and we are also not to not let the sun go down while we are still angry, so we do not give the devil a foothold. (Ephesians 4:25-27)

Let us therefore keep in mind that God will not answer the prayers of believers if they are living in unrepentant sin or fail to forgive others. Jesus teaches His disciples in Matthew 6:12, “that God forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” And continues in verses 14-15 that “if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Therefore, a believer that is living in sin or fails to forgive others has their prayers blocked since they are out of fellowship with the Father.

So how do we remedy this situation? 1 John 1:9 makes it clear: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Therefore, we need to repent, confess our sins and be reconciled to God and to those we have offended.

Make it a goal to completely saturate and believe every single word in the Bible. Anytime the enemy attempts to whisper evil thoughts in your mind, counteract it with the Word of God.

 If you hear voices in your mind then Dear just understand your authority if you are Christian. (Read James 4:7 and  Luke 10:19 and Mark 16:17 before praying). 

Then pray like this:

Heavenly Father in Jesus name  I move as warrior against every sinful decay and corruption erected in my mind. Because these sinful decay and corruption in my mind  exalt themselves against the knowledge of God. I demolish them in Jesus name. I also move as a warrior  against these demonic voices troubling my mind and in Jesus name I cut their relationship with each other and also with the devil. In Jesus name I put all of them under confusion and command in Jesus name to come out of my mind and go where Lord Jesus sends you right now. 

In Jesus might name I pray ...Amen.
